Mail from www.saynoto0870.com
They’ve given us a link on their forum to our site here. Dave also mentioned that there are a couple of other European sites with the same aim:
- Belgium, France and Spain - www.geonumbers.com
- Germany - http://www.0180.info/
We have been around for a few years, and this year Ofcom have (finally) created 03 numbers. These will be charged at geographical rates (all our geo numbers start 01 or 02) and will provide for the same technical benefits of call routing as 08/09 non-geographical revenue sharing/premium numbers do.
Have you alternatives to 1890, 1850 or 0818?
We’ll keep our listing maintained for the use of all consumers and help avoid unnecessary costs - particularly if you have minutes bundles with your phone package (mobile or landline).
Our current listing of numbers is available on www.saynoto1890.com.
New Numbers added this evening
We have added numbers to the Banks section (BOI Credit Cards) and the Utilities section this evening on www.saynoto1890.com.
The two added to the Utilities section are for Pay as You Go Vodafone and Speakeasy O2 customers to call their respective customer services - but they only provide CallSave 1850 numbers.
These are interesting because these companies provide special numbers for their Bill Pay customers (1907 and 1909 respectively) - these numbers are free call numbers.
So, if you’re a Vodafone Pay As You Go customer, you pay 31c from your credit for every minute you are getting customer care.
And if you’re an O2 customer on a SpeakEasy plan, you pay 30c for each minute of your customer care calls.
National Irish Bank - Alternative Mastercard number
According to the National Irish Bank website:
If you lose your card or believe it to be stolen, notify your branch immediately or phone our 24-hour Emergency Telephone Service, which operates 365 days a year: 1850 700 221.
But if your phone package (mobile or landline) has inclusive minutes, you can call this number instead: 01 661 2822
This is now available on the Banks link on the www.saynoto1890.com webpage.
1850/1890 Numbers are a scam
Interesting blog here by David Behan on 1850 and 1890 numbers.
How does that all make sense??? It doesn’t really. I believe it is a nice little scam by the phone companies to extract an extra bit of money from the punter. How to combat it? Businesses… if you really want to save customers money, get rid of the 1850/1890 numbers and get 1800 numbers instead. Consumers… don’t be fooled by these numbers and save the regular numbers to your phone instead.
RegTel don’t provide a geographical number
The independent regulator RegTel charged the oversight of the content and promotion of Premium Rate telecommunications doesn’t provide an alternative 01 or any other geographical phone number.
Complaints/Helpline (Mon-Fri 9.00-19.00, Sat 10.00-17.00)*
Telephone : 1850 741 741 Fax : 1850 741 747
They do provide an “Administrative” number. I wonder would that get you through to the complaints number anyway? Anyone tried it?
Administration Only (Mon-Fri 9.30 – 13.00 & 14.00 – 17.00)
Telephone : +353 1 6767025
Fax : +353 1 6767035
They do however helpfully point out the following:
The Complaints/Helpline is a Callsave number. Local and national calls from landlines should cost no more than 6.35 cent per call. For mobiles, prices charged as per mobile operator (Vodafone, O2, Meteor, 3 Ireland). Calls from mobiles, payphones and charge cards may cost more.
ComReg do provide a geographical alternative number
Unlike their regulator counterparties IFSRA and NCA, the much maligned ComReg do provide an 01 alternative number for consumers and business alike to call.
